Black Ops 2 port finally adds dedicated servers & fans are delighted

The PS4 and PS5 port of Black Ops 2 has finally added dedicated servers, addressing one of the biggest complaints players have had since it launched in July.

Dedicated servers mean multiplayer matches are hosted on Activision’s own infrastructure rather than relying on a player to act as the host. Everyone in the lobby simply connects to the dedicated server, instead of a specific player.

As a result, connections should be more consistent across the lobby, while matches no longer have to go through the traditional host migration process if the person hosting decides to leave.

The change has been gradually rolled out over the last few days, but the developers have now confirmed that every multiplayer match has been moved across.

Host migration removed from Black Ops 2 port

“Dedicated servers began rolling out over the past several days, and 100% of MP matches have now been migrated to dedicated servers with today’s update,” the announcement said. The developers added that the switch should result in “improved match stability and security.”

It’s not the only change included in the latest update, as the patch also brings “improved support for joining friends,” alongside fixes for Custom Emblems, the UI, and the multiplayer heatmap globe.

Dedicated servers are something that fans have been desperate for ever since the port launched, and players have been quick to praise the long-awaited upgrade.

“This is literally what everyone had been wanting; finally Call of Duty is doing the right thing,” said one reply.

“Just played my usual 1-2 hours without knowing what the update addressed. The difference is huge,” said another.

The Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 ports have been a hit so far, but there have been some other issues, including hackers boosting their accounts.
