Albion Online makes tweaks to Ancient Lands portals to combat camping in PvP

Nobody likes having to wait around to hop into an MMORPG activity, and that can certainly go double for those who are wiped out by PKers if the door to that activity happens to be in an FFA PvP zone. That’s the problem that Albion Online is currently dealing with as a result of its Dragonfire release and the portals to the Ancient Lands zone, which has forced the devs to make tweaks in response.

The new patch reduces the lock time of small portals from 30 minutes down to 15 while also increasing the time to enter after unlocking them from three minutes to eight. This is meant to directly combat portal camping from aggressive players while also allowing players more time to enter an unlocked portal after a main group enters or to relocate to a different portal if they wish.

There are some changes being made to the other portals as well, like an increase to entry time for both medium and large portals, and a mob health reduction for large portal enemies with exception of drakes. Portals will also appear on the map at all times, and island quests within the Ancient Lands zone will only require 50% of mobs to be slain.

Sandbox Interactive further notes that additional changes to portals will come, particularly as a means to make them rarer and more opportunity-based. ” For the launch, we wanted to make it more readily available so players can experience the feature more reliably. This is why the spawn rates are currently so high,” the studio explains. “These portal settings will likely get changed again when we go back to a more opportunity target driven spawning in the long run.”
