Boulders, leopards and cat mummies Three editions and 48 hours of early access Thirty years of Lara rolled into one What happens nextTomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will launch on February 12, 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The date was confirmed by a new 30th anniversary teaser shown at the TR30 celebrations in Derby and at MCM London.
The game is a full remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider, rebuilt by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, with Amazon Game Studios behind it. It is the second time Lara’s debut has been remade, following Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider: Anniversary in 2007.
Boulders, leopards and cat mummies
The minute-long teaser opens on Lara making light work of a sheer rock wall, then jumps between isolated ruins and a mix of in-engine scenes and play. The 30th anniversary trailer was the headline reveal of the weekend’s Tomb Raider Day events.
As Vice notes in its breakdown, the footage leans hard into old-school Tomb Raider: Lara shoves an enormous boulder along a channel cut into the floor to crack a puzzle, swings and flips off bars sticking out of walls, dives into pools and somersaults mid-firefight.
Combat stretches beyond her twin pistols too. The trailer pits her against human enemies and a leopard, and the cat mummies from the 1996 original are back, which will delight or haunt veterans in roughly equal measure.
Three editions and 48 hours of early access
The end of the trailer confirms Legacy of Atlantis will come in three editions, among them a Deluxe Edition and a Collector’s Edition, and spells out the bonuses attached to each.
- Pre-orders of any edition include Lara’s Survivor outfit from the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot.
- The Deluxe and Collector’s editions unlock 48-hour early access, so those players start on February 10, 2027.
- The launch date is the same across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam.
Prices for the three editions were not part of the teaser, so the cost of that two-day head start is still unknown.
Thirty years of Lara rolled into one
The date lands days after a PlayStation Blog deep dive on Lara’s new look, written by Amazon Game Studios’ Michael Lovan, which explains how the two studios rebuilt her in Unreal Engine with strand-based hair cards, subsurface scattering on her skin and custom facial blend shapes.
The team even had a tailor make one of Lara’s outfits for real, then scanned it on a mannequin so the fabric would fold properly in game. Crystal Dynamics narrative director John Stafford said the aim was to fuse the mythic, grounded and larger-than-life takes on Lara from across the series into a single character.
Anniversary was about retelling a classic through a modern lens. Legacy of Atlantis is about synthesizing thirty years of Lara into something new.

“Anniversary was about retelling a classic through a modern lens. Legacy of Atlantis is about synthesizing thirty years of Lara into something new,” Stafford said, adding that the Survivor era taught the team Lara works well “when danger has consequences”.
What happens next
With pre-order bonuses now confirmed and a little over three months to go, longer looks at levels and combat are likely before launch. Vice frames the February date as a slip into next year, which will sting for fans hoping to play during the series’ 30th anniversary.
For now, February 12, 2027 is the date to circle, or February 10 for Deluxe and Collector’s owners. The cat mummies have waited 30 years for a comeback; they can manage another three months.
